Job Description:
A Material Consultant helps clients and design teams make informed material decisions by analyzing physical properties, assessing environmental impacts, and identifying innovative application opportunities. This role involves researching material innovations, advising on performance standards, and managing material libraries to achieve structural, regulatory, and aesthetic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Researches and sources innovative, high-performance materials for diverse projects.
  • Evaluates material durability, structural integrity, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Advises designers, architects, and engineering teams on optimal material applications.
  • Establishes and maintains a comprehensive physical and digital material library.
  • Coordinates with global manufacturers and suppliers to secure sample kits and technical data.
  • Assesses manufacturing feasibility, cost, and lead times for specified materials.
Requirements:
  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Industrial Design, Chemistry fields.
  • Proficient in material selection databases and search systems like Granta Design or Matmatch.
  • Skilled in digital inventory tools and digital asset management software.
  • Understands environmental compliance certifications such as LEED, BREEAM, or Cradle to Cradle.
  • Familiar with CAD and 3D simulation software to preview physical material behavior and textures.
